The purpose of Cyber Barbecue Entertainment is to entertain, inspire creativity using music/animation, and create community.
CBE is a source of creative inspiration, a symbol of epic storytelling, and a catalyst for community development. The brand is based on the power and relevance of the animated band. CBE encourages fans to be creative and chase their dreams rather than conform to peoples’ expectations.
CBE will make the world a better place through the promotion of creativity, imagination, and community development.
The “Cyber” aspect of CBE refers to our emphasis on digital systems, online marketing and holographic technology.
The “Barbecue” reference pertains to the “community” factor and CBE's worldwide tribe of fans — we want the community to develop around activities such as food related barbecues and listening events.
The musical notes represent the songs created by the animated band — under the overall rubric of the CBE brand. The steam punk goggles represent a bit of retro flavor in the songwriting (the songwriting is heavily influenced by classic hard rock and power metal bands, but not exclusively).
It is very difficult to create an animated band from scratch with limited resources. The music industry is in a very “chaotic” state now. Most investors would avoid the music industry — too much uncertainty and fragmentation relative to the cost. One cannot sell music directly anymore (except for vinyl) — the market is too small and was “disintermediated” by web-based technology. Thus, one must find creative ways to market and brand music.
CBE is a brand because I felt that the market was missing an animated rock band that focused on intelligent lyrics and guitar driven music. I created an animated band called “Farewell Intelligent Computer,” which in turn, allowed me to create my firm “Cyber Barbecue Entertainment.”
The band was created to express creativity and innovation. Pop music lacks creativity, innovation and intensity. Cyber Barbecue created a brand focused on intelligent storytelling, through lyrics, and music that is intense, epic, and generally progressive. The songs have a bit of a roller coaster vibe — taking the listener on a journey, so to speak. Fans get a mental and emotional rush from the epic storytelling. The music has numerous tempo, time and key changes, with emphasis on soaring vocals and heavy lead guitar riffs.
Babbage, Erity, Cody Neuron, Admiral Hi-Hat, and Gaspar ended up at Blackmore’s at the same time. All five band members met at the bar and discovered they had the same love of hard rock, classic, and progressive power metal. They decided to form a band and record an album.
Babbage, a giraffe, is the lead vocalist; Erity, a robot, is a lead guitarist and Cody Neuron, also a robot, is the other lead guitarist. The dog Admiral Hi-Hat is on drums and Gaspar is the bass player.
Babbage is temperamental, intense, and egotistical: a typical front man for a band. Erity is quiet and reserved, but is an excellent lead guitar player and very expressive onstage with her instrument. Cody Neuron is funny on stage and works well with Erity as a counterpoint. Admiral Hi-Hat is a bit of a “show-off” and likes to be the center of attention. Gaspar is steady and keeps a low profile.
